Street art in Labuan

Thanks to its brightly coloured murals, numerous old buildings in Labuan are now revitalised with an artistic facelift. Some of these paintings also come complete with a 3D effect to add visual dimension and depth.

One of Labuan’s most sought-after artworks is the giant mural of Uncle Ah Ming, situated near Jalan Tun Mustapha in the heart of town. The mural relates the story of Uncle Ah Ming, a trader who sells Cincau (grass jelly drink). He inherited the business from his father more than 40 years ago after his father fell ill. Hailed as a national legend, Datuk Hassan Sani is a former footballer. The Labuan-born striker was famed for his agility and fast moves. This mural is created based on an old photograph that dates to the 1970s. Back then, Datuk Hassan Sani was at the tender age of 18 and had just joined the youth football team. The mural is a source of inspiration to youngsters to work towards their goals. Created by gra ti artist Amir Andhar Abu Samah, this mural occupies a prominent location near the Labuan International Ferry Terminal.

Labuan’s unique marine life including the Blue Marlin and seahorse are also featured in its street art.
